State of New Jersey Spay & Neuter Program

O.S.C.A.R. is approved with the State of New Jersey for their low cost spay and neuter program. You may be eligible to have your pet spayed or neutered at a discounted price at one of the participating veterinary hospitals.

NOTE: This is a quarterly funded program, so spots fill up fast. Please contact a participating vet as soon as you can to schedule an appointment.

Spay or Neuter your adopted dog or cat for $20.00 if you:

  • Are a New Jersey Resident
  • Adopted your pet from
    • an eligible licensed NJ shelter
    • a municipal, county, or regional pound
    • a NJ holding or impoundment facility that contracts with NJ municipalities or
    • a non-profit NJ animal adoption referral agency (O.S.C.A.R. qualifies as eligible in NJ)
    • License the dog in your municipality (licensing for cats is not required)


    Spay or Neuter your dog or cat for $10.00 if your receive any of the following.

    • Food Stamps/Medicaid/General Public Assistance/Rental Assistance
    • Aid to Families with Dependent Children
    • Lifeline Utility Credit/Tenants Lifeline Assistance
    • Supplemental Security Income/Pharmaceutical Assistance to Aged & Disabled

            Note: You will need to show the vet your ID card.

    With your application, you will need to include a copy of your:

    • Adoption Contract,
    • Proof of Your Town’s Licensing, and
    • License (or Other Documentation Proving You Are a NJ Resident)



    BENEFITS OF SPAY/NEUTER FOR CATS AND DOGS

    • Benefits of Spaying (females):
      • No heat cycles, therefore males will not be attracted
      • Less desire to roam
      • Risk of mammary gland tumors, ovarian and/or uterine cancer is reduced or eliminated, especially if done before the first heat cycle
      • Reduces number of unwanted cats/kittens/dogs/puppies
      • Helps dogs and cats live longer, healthier lives
    • Benefits of Neutering (males):
      • Reduces or eliminates risk of spraying and marking
      • Less desire to roam, therefore less likely to be injured in fights or auto accidents
      • Risk of testicular cancer is eliminated, and decreases incidence of prostate disease
      • Reduces number of unwanted cats/kittens/dogs/puppies
      • Decreases aggressive behavior, including dog bites
      • Helps dogs and cats live longer, healthier lives
